A staycation at the
Tribeca Serviced Suites
by Eli Chang and Chloe Tai

It never crossed my mind that we could actually have an R & R right in the heart of the city. Well, not until we accepted this invitation.
I’m an athlete and my girlfriend Chloe Tai is an interior architect, and a stressed-out one with her workload. And we are creatures of habit; I would look for facilities for a short workout while Chloe would just look at designs and buildings!
Soon after checking into the Tribeca service suites and apartments that are located in the heart of Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur, we couldn’t wait to check out the facilities.
What a view indeed as we stepped out on to the SunDeck on Level 32. A 180 view of the city skyline at the edge of the infinity pool. It was almost dinner time but I promised myself a dip in this pool later in the night.
We carried this feeling of being up on the canopy of a rainforest in the jungle to our suite, The Duo, that has two bedrooms on the 23rd Floor. Only now we are on the canopy of a concrete jungle.

The oversized glass windows gave us an overflow of the view that we experienced from the sky pool.
Dinner has been arranged at The Wizard restaurant downstairs. It’s reputation, in the social media and by word of mouth, precedes and we couldn’t wait for a great dining experience. Well, no good rest and relax staycation is complete without pleasing the palate.
At the Wizard, the culinary journey begins with an appetizer Salmon Tataki with avocado purée, compressed cucumber, tomato, fennel and yuzu foam. It was delicately refreshing. In contrast, is the truffle fries. Shoestring fries with truffle oil, grated cheese and herbs. Delicious strong truffle flavour and delightfully salty from the cheese.

Between the two mains, grilled chicken thigh with sweet potato puree, pearl barley, green lentils and mushroom juice and the smoked duck breast seared with poached daikon, walnut salad, and foie gras jus, I particularly like the grilled chicken.
Don’t take my word for it. You have to sink your teeth in the well-cooked chicken thigh, sweet pumpkin purée with texture from the pearl barley to know what I mean.
We finished off with, but of course in days of everything salted egg yolk, salted egg yolk chocolate molten lava cake served with vanilla ice cream and salted egg yolk crumbles – the Golden Molten Lava.
I had to get back to the pool for a dip and I could stay inside the pool forever just soaking in the night view of the skyline. So mesmerised, I felt embraced by the stretch of the night sky by just standing at the far edge of the pool. It felt like I could just take off like a plane.
The night was still young and we brought our own HDMI cable to connect our laptops to the TV but was pleasantly surprised that our rooms came with smart TV and we could just log in to Netflix. The unit is also equipped with a washing machine, induction cooker and an oven.
What an ideal apartment for a working retreat if I should ever need one!

Our room was on the same floor as Social Pod and Zen Pod. These are activities areas with a pool table and a foosball table as well as a cosy nook with bean bags at the Social pod while the Zen Pod is a large quiet room with big louvred windows that allow ample amount of sunlight and fresh air in, perfect for yoga and meditation.
On Level 8, an upcoming new bar Flying Monkey, to open on August 1, promises more entertainment with Malaysian inspired drinks and Gothic style deco.
The Gym Pod on level 31 is fully equipped and has a good view of the KL Tower.

It was culinary wizardry that had the french toast coated with nesting grains, louvred with Mascarpone cream, chocolate crumbles, fresh fruit, raspberry coulis and pandan infused gula Melaka.
We hit the gym before heading home, re-energised to take on the hustle and bustle of the city.
